The latest Nintendo Direct two days ago is a treasure trove of information about upcoming games in 2019. Many new games were shown along with info on already existing titles. I am going to take a quick look at the most important, generally speaking that is, news from the Direct.
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Sadly, Smash Ultimate got basically no info in this direct. 3.0 was confirmed along with new Amiibos and we finally saw a bit of Joker’s model but that’s all we got. Seems Nintendo is biding their time with the Smash news.
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker is receiving a new update, enabling all the stages to support 2 player-mode. Along with this, the game is also having it’s first paid DLC, 18 challenges in 5 new courses. The first course is currently available and the rest will come out on March 14th this year.
Dragon Quest Builders 2
Dragon Quest Builders is also receiving a sequel, the original being on the Wii U. The original Builders was very fun, exploring the world while also building your own structures with the materials you gather boosted by a very cute and nice art style. Builders 2 seems to have all of that and more, releasing on July 12th this year.
Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S - Definitive Edition
We already knew that Dragon Quest XI would also receive a Switch release but we did not expect what we were given at all. Having simply thought this would be a port of the ps4 and pc versions, we were happily surprised. The Nintendo Switch version has everything from those versions but also the ability to change between modern and retro style that the 3DS version of the game did. Many fans were saddened about not being able to play on the 3DS version due to it only releasing in Japanese. On top of everything, the Switch version has new story content for this already gigantic game, each party member receiving their own small chapters for us to experience. The game also has new quality of life changes, now being able to speed up battles, switch the voice between English and Japanese and finally the ability to change between the orchestrated and midi soundtrack. The soundtrack has been the most controversial aspect of this otherwise widely accepted perfect game, the releases only having midi soundtrack. Now, everyone can experience the soundtrack in it’s full orchestrated glory. These are truly amazing news for fans of this series. The release date is sometime in Fall this year.
Starlink: Battle for Atlas
Starlink: Battle for Atlas is receiving a new update, featuring new missions related to the villains of Starwolf. It will also feature a racing minigame and faction missions. The new content sounds exciting, the update coming out on April this year.
Yoshi’s Crafted World
The newest entry in Yoshi’s series, Yoshi Crafted World received another gameplay video, the game looking wacky and fun as it always has been. The demo of the game is already available to test and the full game will fully come out on March 29th this year.
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem: Three Houses received a huge portion of the direct all to itself, showing a video about both it’s lore and the gameplay. The gameplay is about running an academy and training your students, the cast changing depending on which academy you choose out of three. Unlike Fire Emblem: Fates, this is thankfully all included in just one purchase instead of seperate. The gameplay video was several minutes long, seeming very interesting, deep and diverse about the development of your students. The game’s graphics are also quite unique and look great. We also got the game’s release date at last, July 26th this year.
Dead By Daylight Switch Release
Dead by Daylight is getting a port to the Switch this Fall. Even though it’s just a port and no changes, this helps the diversity of the Switch’s gaming line up as a whole.
Deltarune Switch Release
Deltarune is also being ported to the Switch, shown off in a very flavorful trailer. It will be a free download however will have paid DLC in the future. The game will release on February 28th this year. It’s right around the corner.
Assassin’s Creed 3 is getting a remaster for the Nintendo Switch, including the DLC and base game in the same purchase. The gameplay is also revamped and receiving a few new aspects, making this a fresh and exciting new experience for its fans.
Astral Chain is a brand new game from Platinum Games. It’s an action jRPG with jaw-dropping graphics. The game has developers from other famous action games such as NieR: Automata and Bayonetta. The combat seems to be quite different than most action RPGs as two characters are fighnier: Automata and Bayonetta. The combat seems to be quite different than most action RPGs as two characters are fighting together at once without co-op in fast-paced and satisfying looking combat backed with an interesting sounding story. This should be a very promising title to play when it comes out on August 30th this year. After the game’s announcement, Bayonetta 3’s continued development has also been stated.
The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening Remake
1993’s Gameboy classic, Link’s Awakening is getting a Switch release as a full remake after nearly three decades of it’s initial release. The game’s new graphics look adorable and the gameplay seems satisfying to play as ever, a 2D adventure in 3D graphics. The only info we’ve got about the game’s release is that it will be sometime during 2019 but that’s all. Fans of the classics must have been screaming for joy with this reveal.
That’s all the important news from the last Direct however there were plenty of stuff l haven’t covered that most might not call important but cater to a specific fanbase such as Rune Factory 4 being remastered for the Switch along with the development of Rune Factory 5 being confirmed which is extremely shocking considering Neverland Co. had stated it would file for bankruptcy after Rune Factory 4. Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night has also been confirmed for the Switch, a fun adventure platformer with an enticing story. Another game is Tetris 99, a battle royale of the classic Tetris played by 100 players at the same time, the survivor being the winner. The game is already out for the Switch.
As l said before, this direct was huge for the game line up of Switch for 2019. After this direct, there are so many more games that l just have to play…
