May be financial problems, maybe technical problems... There are lots of reasons for a game got cancelled. But in the gaming industry, the cancellation of games is not too unexpected. Developers work for a game for months, even years. But sometimes things don't go as expected. Even a small problem can ruin the whole project. And we all been there. A new awesome game announced. We fall in love with that game and can’t wait for it to release. But then it gets quiet. We hear nothing for a long time. Then there is an update... that awesome game has been cancelled! So here is a list of cancelled video games we'll never get to play.
Doom 4 was officially announced back in 2008. It was first teased at QuakeCon by id Software lead developer John Carmack. Doom 4 was different than the other games of the series. Most of the other series were set in Mars but this time, the game would set in Earth.
Sadly, despite the polished gameplay, early builds of the game felt too generic. The game was cancelled and redesigned from the ground up as a hyper-violent throwback and reboot, simply titled Doom.
One of the most famous cancelled games is surely Starcraft: Ghost. Starcraft: Ghost was planned to be a stealth action game in the Starcraft universe. It would be a part of Blizzard's StarCraft series and was announced in September 2002. Then, after some delays in development, Blizzard decided to move back the release date.
In March 2006, Blizzard announced that the game was put on "indefinite hold". But, in 2014, Blizzard president Mike Morhaime confirmed that Ghost had been cancelled.
We know that Xbox lacks exclusive games. But Scalebound could be one of them. Scalebound was an Xbox One-exclusive action-RPG by Platinum Games (Bayonetta and Nier: Automata). It was first announced at Microsoft's E3 2014 press conference. The game planned to be released in 2017
Players would assume control of Drew, who is accompanied by a dragon, Thuban. Players could with enemies with lots of skills and they could also command their dragon to help them in fights. But on January 2017, it is confirmed that the game had been cancelled. on the same day as the game's cancellation, Microsoft ends its partnership with Platinum Games.
Prey 2 is a first-person shooter video game. The game was to be published by Bethesda Softworks and planned to be a sequel to the 2006 video game Prey. In the game, players would control a bounty hunter who was trying to recover his lost memories.
In October 2014, during PAX Australia, Bethesda announced that they officially cancelled Prey 2. Hines said: "It was a game we believed in, but we never felt that it got to where it needed to be. We never saw a path to success if we finished it. It wasn't up to our quality standard and we decided to cancel it. It’s no longer in development. That wasn't an easy decision, but it’s one that won’t surprise many folks given that we hadn't been talking about it. Human Head Studios is no longer working on it. It's a franchise we still believe we can do something with but we just need to see what that something is."
LEGACY of KAIN: DEAD SUN
Legacy of Kain: Dead Sun was an action-adventure video game. The game was developed by Climax Studios for Square Enix Europe. It would be the sixth entry in the Legacy of Kain series.
Dead Sun would be a story-based action-adventure game in an open world. Players would solve puzzles, fight in violent combats, explore dungeons and encounter big bosses. But Square Enix Europe cancelled the title in 2012.
STAR WARS: 1313
Star Wars: 1313 was a third-person shooter game. It was first announced at E3 2012. The game would be the story of a young bounty hunter, Boba Fett. In the game, Boba Fett would navigate past the scum of civilization in an underground area of Coruscant known as Level 1313.
On April 2013, as a result of Disney's acquisition of the franchise, all LucasArts projects were cancelled, including Star Wars: 1313.
Titan was the project name for a cancelled Blizzard's massively multiplayer online game. There is no detailed information about the gameplay or story of the game, but it is said to be a class-based shooter game.
Players would be able to choose their characters from several classes. As players progress in the game, they would gain skill points to spend in their class-specific skill trees. Due to lack of passion, Blizzard cancelled the project in 2014.
DIRTY HARRY: THE VIDEO GAME
Dirty Harry: The Video Game would be a third-person shooter game. It was developed by The Collective and planned to be published by Warner Bros. Interactive. The game was about the story of the 1971 film of the same name, starring Clint Eastwood as Harry Callahan. Detective Harry Callahan was to follow the serial killer, Scorpio.
The game cancelled in 2007 due to reported "trouble" at The Collective. But later it revealed to be budgetary issues and a rushed schedule.
Agent was an open-world stealth-action game developed by Rockstar North and published by Rockstar Games. The game would take place in a 1970sCold War. Agent officially announced in June 2009. According to a press release, the game is set to "take players into the world of counter-intelligence, espionage and political assassinations"
Take-Two Interactive renewed the trademark two times, in 2013 and 2016. This made us think that the game was still in development. But in 2018, United States Patent and Trademark Office declared the "Agent" trademark as abandoned.

Silent Hills is a cancelled survival horror video game developed by Kojima Productions for the PlayStation 4. It would be the ninth main instalment in the Silent Hill series. The game was to be directed Hideo Kojima ( Metal Gear creator) and Guillermo Del Toro (Mexican filmmaker, author, actor) and The Walking Dead star Norman Reedus. Publisher Konami brought Kojima for the project.
But in 2015, Konami announced that the game had been cancelled. This decision shocked the fans of the series. It is said that some conflicts between Kojima and Konami caused this great game to be cancelled. Kojima, del Toro, and Reedus later reunited for the game Death Stranding.
