Ubisoft cancelled an unannounced video game

Today, Ubisoft cancelled an unannounced video game that had been in development for the past 3 years with more than 200 people working on it. Ubisoft Montreal graphics programmer Louis De Carufel took on twitter today and broke the news. Although the cancellation is sad to hear, no layoffs were made. Infact, Ubisoft assigned that 200+ employee to work on a game of their choice.

According to Carufel, there are more than 15 titles that are still in development. Some of them are only months away from release and some of them have just begun development. Considering the workforce it required, I guess the unannounced game was probably an ambitious one. And while 3 years is a pretty long time, the cancellation might be a result of the new direction Ubisoft takes after Ghost Recon: Breakpoint’s below expectation success. From both critical and customer standpoint, Breakpoint was a huge failure for Ubisoft. Even so, the company delayed titles like Watch Dogs 2 and Rainbow Six Quarantine to schedule company’s upcoming fiscal years in a better way.

Video games have been my passion for as long as I can remember. I have been writing and managing in the game industry for more than 30 years. I've been playing Diablo 2 nonstop since it first came out.
