PC Gamers During Lockdown

I think lockdown worked for the console, mobile and PC gamers. Many gamers who come from the intensity of the day and work met with games that are related again. Of course, this allowed platforms like Steam to break records in the lockdown process. Results of the research company Bryter’s report shows the changing behaviours of the deskbound audience.

82% of respondents said that their total amount of time on their PCs has increased, and 78% said that their gaming sessions were longer than they were before lockdown.

Bryter also recorded an uptick in gamers spending money on their pastime. The younger respondents surveyed (aged 18-34) reported that they were spending their money on new games (53%) or in-game-content/DLC (46%).

Among the older respondents (35-40) Bryter saw they were more likely to have bought new equipment and accessories for their PC gaming setups (39%) and taken up game subscription services (38%).

Although all respondents had gaming PCs, 82% of the respondents also owned a PlayStation 4, Xbox One or Nintendo Switch console.

Respondents were also surveyed about the use of their technology as a social tool during the lockdown.

Although most PC gamers used gaming to replace pre-lockdown social activities, the oldest group of respondents (35-40) took up new social activities such as playing titles that have a strong social aspect, setting up social events with friends through games, playing tabletop games via videoconference and meeting new people through online communities such as discord were significantly more likely to do this.

PC gamers have also found themselves playing games that they have not played in a while (79%) and trying new games and genres that they had not played before (72%).
