Super Smash Bros. Ultimate review
Let's explain a bit about the type of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. Although the type of the game is called a fighting game, it is not as complicated as other fighting games. So in general, the word “Brawler” is used when defining the game. The game genre where you're fighting in an arena and trying to move the characters away from the arena. If you played Brawlhalla on the PC, you should know what I mean.
There are two main parts in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The first of these is Smash, the other is Spirits. In Smash, players can fight with any character they want. This mode can be played up to four people. If you want to have fun with your friends, you can spend hours here. I will mention arenas and characters later.
Spirits part of the game is where you play the game’s scenario. The Master of Light, Galeem, destroys all the characters in the old world and turns them into spirits to create a new world. Then he makes copies of these characters and turns them into puppets to fight for him. The only survivor of the attack, Kirby is the one who will fix things in this new world.
The game's Spirits mode is definitely the most rewarding part in the game. You open a large part of the game’s characters by playing this mode. In addition, collectible trophies in the old games turned into spirits in this game. We can unlock spirits through this mode. They bring many features that can help us. They can make things in the arenas flow towards you, make you jump higher, or make you get less damage.
The spirits are divided into four different species (Sword, Shield, Grab and Neutral) and three of them have superiority similar to stone-paper-scissor logic. Sword is strong against Grab; Shield is strong against Sword; Grab is strong against Shield. Neutral ones are not affected by the opposite spirits. In addition, some spirits in the game can be selected as the primary spirit or as support. Some primary spirits can have three support spirits, while others may never have. There is also the level of every spirit. Some of the spirits may not be understood unless it reached the maximum level, so it is logical to not classify them as weak and strong. One of the best things about the spirits is that they are all characters that can't find a place in the game. Eevee, for example, does not appear as a character in the game, but as a spirit.
Spirits can be unlocked by playing the game's main scenario mode World of Light. World of Light's world is so vast that I suggest you expect hard fights. However, you must play this scenario to unlock the characters. This scenario lasts about 25 hours, you can unlock roundly two hundred spirits and dozens of characters.
Speaking of characters, let's talk about them. When you first enter the game, there are 8 characters (Mario, Donkey Kong, Link, Samus, Yoshi, Kirby, Fox and Pikachu) on the Smash screen which are the original characters in the first game. The number of characters you can unlock by playing the World of Light scenario is exactly 66. So the number of characters that can be played when you unlock all the characters is 74 and new characters will be added to the game. (Joker, the main character of Persona 5 will be the first character to be added to the game.) Although most of these characters are in the old games, the characters added from the last Pokemon game such as Incineroar are also in the game. The battles you make for each character are made in an arena that is unique to that character and this situation gives a big plus to this game.
Another way to unlock the characters is playing Smash. After every match in Smash mode, a challenge comes up. If you can beat the character, you can unlock that character directly. In the old games you had to make certain conditions to unlock certain characters, but here everything happens randomly. But still, opening all the characters of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate requires a long time.
With the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, the new characters added to the game are quite varied. For example, Isabelle, who added to the game from Animal Crossing, can pull opponents and goods with a hook. In addition, characters such as Simon can beat their opponents from a distance with long whips. Some big characters can move faster than the old ones. Obviously, it is important to learn new characters and develop tactics against them.
The arenas in the game are truly excellent. Some are incredibly flat and calm, some are incredibly complex. Sometimes you go to the world of Mario, sometimes you go to the world where Duck Hunt is. In addition, arenas are constantly changes, leans and bends while you fight. Apart from your enemy, the arena becomes a kind of enemy.
The game controls are also very successful. When I was testing the game, although I mainly played in tablet mode, the controls were really good when I connected to the television. Players can use the Joy-Con as a single or a pair. I'm sure you'll find your own gaming style that's right for you.
The graphics of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate are quite lively and fluent. Especially backgrounds and in-game animations are extremely successful. There is nothing to say about the music of the game, the change of music according to the arena you are playing is a huge plus.
The only shortage of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is in the online section. I have always had a delay and lag shortage even though I had a good internet connection. In general, there are many complaints about this issue on the internet. But I'm sure Nintendo will bring a solution. But already Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is an excellent game when you play with your friends.
Last words about Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
Of course, there is much more to speak about the game, but I don't want to tell you more about it. Overall, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the best games for Nintendo Switch. I haven't played a game that's been so amusing for a long time. If you have the Nintendo Switch, I strongly suggest you try Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. It is the best game in recent years where you can have fun with your friends without getting bored.
