Exynos 2100: Samsung Introduced New Chipset

South Korea-based technology giant Samsung announced its SoC, named Exynos 2100, before announcing its new flagship Galaxy S21 series. This 5 nm chipset will be in direct competition with the Snapdragon 888.

The Exynos 2100, which will compete with Qualcomm’s latest flagship, will not have Samsung’s proprietary microarchitecture just like the Exynos 1080. In addition, the new SoC, where the AMD GPU will not be used, will have GPU performance upgrades. In addition, the new Exynos chipset will use ARM’s Cortex-X1 and Cortex-A78 CPU performance CPUs just like Snapdragon 888.

Exynos 2100 Features

Samsung introduced the Exynos 2100, which will compete with Qualcomm’s next-generation flagship chipset Snapdragon 888. The information given in the presentation shows that the new Exynos chipset can compete head-to-head with the Snapdragon 888. Samsung stated in the introductory presentation of its new SoC that the new Exynos chipset offers 30% better CPU performance than the Exynos 990. According to the news in Xda-Developers, the new Exynos chipset can offer better CPU performance than Snapdragon 888 thanks to its higher core frequencies.

The company also stated that there is a performance increase in graphics. Accordingly, the graphics performance of Exynos 2100 is 40% better than Exynos 990. The tech giant also made the announcement of AMIGO (Advanced Multi-IP Governor) for sustainable GPU performance.

Samsung claims that the new Exynos chipset has 3 core NPUs. The company stated that when combined with the improvements in CPU, GPU, DSP, and NPU, SoC reached 26 TOPS (Tera Operations Per Second) performance. In Exynos 990, that number was 15 TOPS. It also managed to reach the same level as Snapdragon here.

Snapdragon 888 was able to process 3 signal streams simultaneously. According to Samsung, the Exynos 2100 is able to process 4 signal streams simultaneously. Also, up to 6 image sensors can be connected. Samsung stated that the ISP (Image Sensor Processor) of its new chip also supports image sensors up to 200 MP.

Finally, Exynos 2100 has Samsung’s latest generation 5 nm integrated modem. Although there is no improvement over Exynos 990 here, the integration of the modem into the SoC can provide better performance.
