PS5 DualSense Controller: A Detailed Review
Sony officially announced its new controller in its PlayStation Blog. Some of us imagined the new controller’s name would be DualShock 5. However, the official name of the product is PS5 DualSense Controller. The main reason for changing the name of controllers is, the next-gen technologies can integrate into this new controller. I can’t wait for sharing the details of this new controller.
PS5 DualSense Controller- The wireless controller for the PlayStation 5
You’re mistaken if you think of that the oncoming controller will be an upgrade to the DualShock 4 controller. DualSense offers a different gameplay experience with appealing features for users. In the simplest terms, the DualSense is the new controller for the upcoming PS5 console replacing DualShock 4. Additionally, we can still use the PS4 controller on the PS5 according to PlayStation, but only with supported PS4 games. After the release, the DualSense will be available along with the PS5, and also it will be available to buy separately.
Can We Use a PS5 DualSense Controller With the PS4?
No, we cannot use the PS5 DualSense controller with the PS4. The PS4 doesn’t have a USB-C connection port, whereas the PS5 does.
Can we use a DualShock 4 controller with the PS5?
We will be able to use the current DualShock 4 controller to play to the PS4 games on PS5. But we will have to use the new DualSense for PS5 games.
Additionally, PS5 will not be backwards compatible with PS3, PS2, or PS1 games.
Sony Confirmed Some PS4 Accessories Will Work With the PS5.
PS4 accessories which work with PS5 and PS4 games are:

PlayStation didn’t give an exact time about the release dates of the PS5 console or any accessories. The DualSense will release alongside the PlayStation in holiday 2020 period. It means the release date will be between October and December.
DualSense Price- How Much Will it Cost?
Sony didn’t announce an official price for the DualSense controller yet. By taking into account of PS4 controllers current price (retailing for around £40), the new PS5 DualSense may cost more than DualShock 4. In accordance with the estimates, the price may cost £45 or higher. However, there are some rumours that the new controller will cost more. Nonetheless, we have to wait for Sony’s oncoming announcement about the price of DualSense. My estimate price is around £60. So, the price isn’t specified yet.
DualSense Design and Colour: It Looks Futuristic
This PS5 controller looks different from the previous gamepad designs of Sony. In the manner of design; it has a boomerang-like shape. In the demo video, Geoff Keighley stated that the DualSense a bit heavier than the current PS4 controller. So, its frame is bulkier than the previous one. This feature aims to offer an ergonomic design for users while holding it. In my opinion, this controller looks so cool. Like the DualShock, the DualSense has a touchpad. Secondly, DualSense will be a two-tone (black and white) controller. The mute button will be under the PlayStation logo (I will be giving information about the mute button in the following paragraphs). About additional colours for the DualSense, Lempel said, “We’ll talk about it at some point.” Also, R1, R2, L1 and L2 buttons’ are a bit curvier than the DualShock 4. So, we will hold it more comfortably.
Major Features of the PS5 DualSense Controllers
The Haptic Feedback
A modified version of haptic feedback is the main feature of DualSense. This feature is the most exciting innovation for DualSense controller. It is more advanced than previous regular “rumble”. While the PS4 controller vibrates acutely, the PS5 controller will offer different tactile sensations. So, this feature will give stronger feedback for a better feeling to the player. For example, we will able to feel that the ground is slippery or snowy while playing a game. We will be feeling muddy roads or slippery floors thanks to the controller’s haptic feedback. Players will like feeling this physical sense of the game fields.
The Adaptive Triggers on PS5 DualSense Controllers
The L2 and R2 buttons will be programmable in the new controller. This technology allows us to feel the tension on the screen. We will be able to handle the ‘chink’ of pulling the trigger of a gun or we can feel the resistance of the string on a bow. Drawing an arrow will make players feel a unique tension while using DualSense. The triggers will simulate actions so that players can feel more immersed in the game. It appears that the combination of the haptic feedback and the adaptive triggers will make players more into the game. Are you ready to feel your moves as real-life?
Create Button
Create button will take the place of the Share button. Not only will the create button perform in the same way as a Share button, but also it will enable to share more creative contents on media. “We’re once again pioneering new ways for players to create epic gameplay content to share with the world, or just to enjoy for themselves,” Sony stated.
Charging and Battery Life
The DualSense’s battery capacity is 1,560 mAh. It is 560 mAh greater than the PlayStation 4’s controller (1,000 mAh). It seems that the DualSense will last longer than the previous DualShock 4. Moreover, PlayStation is using a rechargeable battery and will opt for USB-C for charging. Also, we will have a charging station for wireless charging. “We also took thoughtful consideration into ways to maintain strong battery life for DualSense’s rechargeable battery,” said Sony, for those of using PS4. The larger battery makes it heavier, but it is worth to hold it through long hours according to me.
Speaker and Microphone
The new PS5 controller will include its built-in speaker and microphone. Sony reported that we would able to talk to people online. Switching off the microphone will be easy; there is a mute button on the controller. Additionally, the PS5 will still feature an audio jack. Speaking of the audio jack, Sony recommends using a headset for more extended periods.
Conclusion: PS5 DualSense Controllers
PlayStation 5’s the new controller DualSense offers a brilliant in-game experience to players. DualSense will have many innovations like wireless charging, advanced trigger sense, and the unique vibrations that are changeable based on grounds during the game. While the trigger becomes more resistant to mimic the tough road conditions, we will entertain far more than we are doing now.
