Shadowgun Legends won Google’s Most Beautiful Game 2019 Award. So, we asked them about the future of the game.
Can you introduce yourself to our readers?
Hi, I’m Luciano Alibrandi, COO and CMO here at MADFINGER Games.
For those who aren’t familiar with your latest game, what exactly is Shadowgun Legends?
Shadowgun Legends is an intense multiplayer sci-fi shooter that has the depth of a AAA console title with elements of an MMORPG. The players are rockstar warriors fighting against a deadly alien invasion, in a world where fame and looking badass is everything!
Shadowgun Legends recently won Google’s Most Beautiful Game 2019 Award. What is the story behind SGL’s success?
We’ve worked very hard for the past three years to create the most ambitious game for mobile platforms. It’s always been our aim to make the most graphically stunning shooter available on mobile, period. We also work very closely with our community to constantly improve the game.

What are the biggest challenges you face as a company operating in the Czech Republic?
We’re always trying to hire the best talent, not only from the Czech Republic. There is great expertise locally but we also search internationally when hiring. Every company wants the top programmers and graphic artists to create the best games so it’s a very competitive field.
There are thousands of games on mobile platforms, but none of them are FPS MMORPG. Were the limitations of mobile devices an obstacle for you?
There are tons of different devices on the market, and they differ in terms of CPU and GPU processing power, screen size and resolution. If I had to highlight a particular obstacle, I’d say memory consumption for storing textures is a critical limitation. We do extensive testing and adapt the quality of the game to the device’s power, without sacrificing the gaming experience.
Recently you published a new update for SGL but we still haven’t received a final version. When will gamers get 1.0?
The Free-to-play model represents a way of constant game development, so there’s no such thing as a “final version”. Once we’ve delivered the game to the market via the app stores, we continue to improve it through egular updates, hence the recent 0.9.0 and 0.9.1. Sometimes they are just minor changes but other times, like with the release of 0.9.0, the update brings in major new features.
As you know, many companies have added a Battle Royale mode to their FPS games. Have you got any similar plans?
We have no desire to introduce a Battle Royale mode right now. SGL has three PvP modes already, using a wide variety of maps, so our focus is on improvements and balancing.
What are you working on right now?
We’re continuing with updates for Shadowgun Legends and working on Shadowgun War Games, our esports focused multiplayer FPS. The Nintendo Switch version of SGL is also launching later this year, so it’s a really exciting time for the studio.
