Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald
When Fantastic Beasts was first announced, all fans of Harry Potter wondered why the producers started such a project. Rather than continue the story of Harry Potter, JK Rowling, who wanted to draw attention to another story in the same universe, appeared before us in a different style with Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Some of the characters we saw in the Harry Potter series were added to the Fantastic Beasts series, and the main character, Newt Scamander, was very popular with the audience.
How is Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald?
You can understand easily that the character Newt Scamander, a wizard from Hufflepuff which is often pushed aside in Harry Potter books and films, created and written by JK Rowling. The filmmakers added unique characters to the Fantastic Beasts series which often take place in different places in contrast to the Harry Potter series. Johnny Depp is the main focus of the new movie. At the end of the first film, we already predicted that the next film would be about Gellert Grindelwald.
The film begins with Gellert Grindelwald, who was imprisoned as a result of his actions in the first film, escaping from the aurors. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald has a quite dark beginning. In the second film, we took a look more closely on Gellert Grindelwald's cold-blooded and brutal personality by David Yates. We must mention that Johnny Depp totally nailed it.
Gellert Grindelwald, who never gets angry and can kill people including children with cold blood, unlike Lord Voldemort, goes on his own journey in Paris to gather his followers. Newt Scamander chases down Grindelwald, who serves the same goal as Lord Voldemort, by the order of Dumbledore and he also tries to protect Credence Barebone, played by Ezra Miller.
We weren’t able to understand why Credence was so important in the first movie, we learn the reason for this in this second movie. I am sure you will be amazed at the moment you understand in the film why Grindelwald was working to win Credence over.
As with every JK Rowling story, the filmmakers split the script into pieces and then gathered it at a single point, the tempo of the film occasionally dropped but if you love the Harry Potter series, I would say you will enjoy every scene of the Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Nevertheless, screenwriters, who did not hesitate to add unnecessary parts to the script, drooled at some point to connect that parts to the story. In addition, producers pushed aside important characters like Queenie, Jacob, and Tina, in order to focus on Grindelwald which made the movie more serious than the first one.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, is not very much focused on fantastic beasts. The producers who showed the Scamander's almost every single beast in the first film made the right decision by not disturbing the high-speed scenario with such factors.
Dumbledore, which has a significant role in the second film as well as Grindelwald, does not appear as much as you expect in the film. Jude Law reflects Dumbledore's youth very well to the audience. Dumbledore, one of the most important figures that we know of as an old character, comes along again. Let's underline the fact that Eddie Redmayne, who plays the character Newt Scamander, is also very successful in terms of acting. A Hufflepuff character with a head-in-the-clouds and a pure spirit is presented to the audience very well. Besides, we can say that it is also exciting to see the human form of Nagini, who is known as the most loyal servant of Voldemort as one of the new characters.
