DualSense Controller may break sooner than you think
2020 was a rough year for most of us. Due to the pandemic that is going on right now, we mostly spend our time at home. That’s where the consoles come to save us from boredom. Thanks to the newly introduced next-generation consoles, we can have a good time without going outside. But is the lifespan of DualSense Controller analog sticks enough to entertain us until the end of this pandemic?
According to iFixIt’s own analysis of Call of Duty: Warzone gameplay, this could translate to just 417 hours before the manufacturer’s operating life for the joystick parts is exceeded. However, this will vary based on the types of games played. This means that if a PS5 player used their DualSense Controller for two hours a day, they would technically exceed their controller’s operation life expectation within 7 months.
According to IFixIt, you have three options if your DualSense Controller analog sticks start to drift: “fix it, either yourself or through an experienced tech; if it’s still under warranty you can send the controller to the manufacturer for a fix; or if neither of those are possible, you’re stuck buying a new one.” “After this research, it’s bizarre to us that console makers don’t consider joysticks to be consumable parts and design them to be easily replaced.”
The drifting issue is not only a problem for the DualSense Controller. This problem has been out since the analog sticks came out. For years, no permanent solution came out to this problem. Maybe the console manufacturers will learn their lesson with this analysis.
