The Lord of the Rings is a fantasy novel written by English author John Ronald Reuel Tolkien (3 January 1892 – 2 September 1973). The title of the novel refers to the story’s main antagonist, the Dark Lord Sauron. Sauron created the One Ring to rule the other Rings of Power as the ultimate weapon to rule all Middle Earth. The story set in across Middle-earth. Readers travel across the Middle Earth with Sam, Frodo, Bilbo, Mery and Pippin. And it was expected to have video games for this epic fantasy adventure novel. So developers didn’t wait long to develop the games and we had some epic Lord of the Ring games in our hands. So let’s talk about some of them.

The Return of the King
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King is one of the adaption video games of The Lord of the Rings novel series. The game is a hack and slash action role-playing game. The game developed by EA Redwood Shores for the PlayStation 2 and Microsoft Windows. Later, it was ported to other gaming platforms like GameCube and Xbox.
The Return of the King is a hack and slash game played from a third-person perspective. The game is very similar to its predecessor in basic gameplay but it differs by adding more storylines, more playable characters and increased interaction with environments. Playable characters in the console and PC versions are Gandalf, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Frodo and Sam. Players can also unlock Faramir, Pippin and Merry as playable characters. There are two basic attacks in the game. Quick attack and fierce attack. Only fierce attack can break enemy shields. And also, every playable character has its own unique combo attacks and attributes. After levelling up, every character can upgrade their abilities and combos with the experience points. The biggest difference from the other game is, players can interact with the environment. They can operate machinery like catapults. And they can use objects as weapons such as spears and cauldrons.
Battle for Middle Earth 2
The Lord of the Rings: The Battle for Middle-earth II is a real-time strategy video game. The game developed by Electronic Arts and published in 2006. There are two campaigns in the game. The Good and The Devil. The Good Campaign focuses on Glorfindel, an Elf who is trying to avoid a planned attack on Rivendell. With the help of dwarves and some other good forces, players try to eliminate Sauron. The game is a typical base building game. Players are building their bases with structures to produce units. Players can get stronger by producing more units, researching new technologies, gathering more resources and growing their defences. There are unit classes like infantry, ranged, pikemen, cavalry and siege. Each unit has its own strengths and weaknesses against each other. And of course, there are some heroes in the game like Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli, Saruman, Nazgul, Mouth of Sauron, Arwen and Shelob. And if the players can kill Gollum, they will be awarded the One Ring.
The Lord of The Rings Mobile Game
As there are lots of PC and console games for the epic Lord of the Rings series, a mobile game is expected also. And developers are working on a new mobile game for the LOTR series. The name of the game will be Rise to War. WB Games and NetEase, Inc. announced they are working together on a new official mobile strategy game for The Lord of the Rings. The game will set in the Third Age of Middle Earth and will feature iconic characters and locations from the original trilogy. We can also see one of the iconic locations in the game’s shared image. Grand Minas Tirith carved inside Mount Mindolluin, also known as the White City. There is not too much information about the game yet. But as it seems like a strategy game, a multiplayer mode can be expected. A spokesperson from Warner Bros said: “This adaptation will unlock new opportunities for players to explore the iconic settings and characters of Middle Earth while utilizing their strategic skills in battle.”. There is no exact release date for the game. As soon as we have more information, we will let you know.
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor
Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is an open world action-adventure video game. The game developed by Monolith Productions and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. In Shadow of Mordor, players control a ranger called Talion. Talion bonds with the wraith of the Elf Lord Celebrimbor. Players can fight enemies with melee combat or wraith abilities. The game uses a new system called the Nemesis System. This system allows the artificial intelligence of non-playable characters to remember their prior actions and behave in that manner. For example, if the player tries to kill an enemy with fire, next time when he tries to kill the same enemy, the enemy stays far from the fire. The game has lots of main and side quests. The combat system uses an attack-chain system. So players perform special moves after building the chain.
Middle-earth: Shadow of War
Middle-earth: Shadow of War is an action role-playing game. The game developed by Monolith Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. The game is a sequel to Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. In Shadow of War, the players continue the story of the ranger Talion and the spirit of the elf lord Celebrimbor. The game uses the Nemesis System, too. Shadow of War uses a dynamic weather system like day and night. And this also affects enemy behaviour. When the game first published, it included some microtransactions. But after lots of negative reactions from the players, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment removed all microtransactions from the console and PC versions of the game.
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest
The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is an action game. The game developed by Pandemic Studios and published by Electronic Arts in 2009. Pandemic Studios also developed Star Wars: Battlefront. LotR: Conquest game has similar gameplay mechanics with Star Wars: Battlefront. Players can play as good or evil forces. In the game, the players take control of a soldier of Rohan, Gondor, Rivendell, Harad, Mordor or Isengard. The game uses a class-based system. There are four playable classes in the game: Warrior, Archer, Scout and Mage. Players can also mount animals in the game.
