The deformed avenger is coming back more than 30 years later
Legendary Pictures has decided to assign Macon Blair with the screenplay and the reboot of The Toxic Avenger, a cult movie of the trash cinema made by Troma Entertainment in 1984. Blair's directorial debut, the criminal comedy I Don't Feel at Home in This World Anymore, won the Grand Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival in 2017, starring Elijah Wood and Melanie Lynksey.
As an actor, instead, Blair has participated in movies such as Green Room, Logan Lucky and will be part of the cast of the upcoming drama American Woman presented at the last Toronto Film Festival.
First The Toxic Avenger was set in the town of Tromaville, New Jersey, where a rather careless cleaner fell into a toxic waste bin that turned him into a deformed avenger, ready to fight bullies and injustice. The success of the movie produced by the legendary Lloyd Kaufman has generated three sequels, a series of cartoons and a comic book by Marvel. Kaufman himself will work on the reboot as an executive producer.
