Warhammer 40000: Mechanicus Review
The Warhammer 40 000, one of the largest universes of the desktop role-playing gaming, is trying to come up with a variety of game genres. The series tries such game genres as strategy, action, 4X. This time they presented their new TBS (turn-based strategy) game Mechanicus. Let’s check our Warhammer 40000: Mechanicus review.
Warhammer 40000: Mechanicus Review
Developed by Bulwark Studios, Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus manages to combine turn-based strategy elements with the universe beautifully. If you like turn-based games or are familiar with the Warhammer 40 000, there’s no reason to dislike this game.
In Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus, the players take on the role of Magos Dominius Faustinius of Adeptus Mechanicus. Adeptus Mechanicus, founded on Mars, is a race of mechanical people who are assigned to protect and develop new technologies for humanity. Many technological babies in the Warhammer universe are coming from these guys.
The story of the game is based on the novel Hammer and Anvil. Adeptus Mechanicus lands on Silva Tenebris, which houses the graves of the Necron and has a huge network. A Techpriest and the team of Skitarii awaken the Necrons’ tombs here. After a few months, a new team lands on to the planet and learns what happened to the previous team. After that, the plan is clear; all the technology of the planet will be captured with the awakening of the Necrons. As a result of the decisions you make to take over the technology on the planet, the Necrons can wake up faster or the awakening of the race may not have great effects.
Let me briefly give information about Necrons. Thousands of years ago, the Necrons were a race seeking the secret of immortality. The Gods ordered them to make indestructible armour for themselves. After the armour completed, they transferred their souls to these armours with a ritual they learned from the Gods. But it was too late for the Necrons, who were deceived by the Gods. The armours had made them immortal, but they lost their selves and fell into the Gods’ clutches forever.
The overall gameplay of the game is similar to the XCOM games. We enter into random dungeons, dealing with small creatures, soldiers, spiders and bosses that the Necrons send over us. We are trying to take over the Necron technology with our Techpriest.
Here I would like to talk about the customization options in the game. The customization option is literally wonderful. The equipment of the Techpriests is quite diverse. Each Techpriest can use two long-range weapons and a one melee weapon, they also have three places for items that will give them an advantage. Although the weapons they can use are limited, we are able to remove the limits with the in-game money called Black Dust. Black Dust is the most important thing you’ll use to upgrade Techpriests and you earn it by completing missions or killing units. We also use this unit to repair damaged Techpriests.
Techpriests specialize in different branches. They can specialize in weapons, cure other men, and collect the Cognition Points you use in your assaults. This feature is absolutely unique, revealing situations directly reflected in your battles.
It is difficult to predict what will happen in Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus battles. Sometimes when the missions are based solely on the killing, sometimes you are trying to do a certain task when the enemies come upon you as if they will never end. It turns to full chaos when the bosses appear in missions. The bosses are definitely the one of Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus’s greatest achievements. These bosses can really stress you out.
I have mentioned that maps and situations in battles are completely random. Even places where enemies will appear are random. For example, I left one of Techpriest behind on a mission because his health was low so that it wouldn’t be damaged. Two minutes later, it was caught up in the middle of an enemy support and died. How nice.
The graphics of the game are really nice for a turn-based strategy. Maps, characters and drawings are really nice. I can also say that the music, the voices and dialogues in the game are also successful. Developers vocalized The Necron Lords quite successful.
What about the cons of the game?
Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus is a game with some problems, although it is a good game. The first is that it has an incredible term density in the game. For example, Adeptus Mechanicus speaks in their own robotic language. If you do not know the universe of Warhammer, it’s normal for you to get confused. So if you don’t know the Warhammer universe, Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus will become a challenge for you. But it’s definitely worth it.
Secondly, there are some technical difficulties and errors in the game. Sometimes it doesn’t let you start the battle, sometimes you can’t move the first round even if you start a battle. When the developers correct problems like this, the game will be much more successful.
Third and last, Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus is a tricky game. So let me tell you the difficulty: you literally tear your hair out. It won’t let you breathe or relax. Being very annoyed especially in the early stages of the game is very normal. I must say that it is not very suitable for players who do not know the game genre.
Last words for Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus
Warhammer 40 000: Mechanicus is one of the best TBS games recently released. It is even the best game that Warhammer 40 000 universe has in recent years. If you like TBS and Warhammer 40 000 universes, I highly recommend you to play this game. Hope you liked our Warhammer 40000: Mechanicus review.
