PS Store Discontinues Movie and TV Purchase and Rentals

PS Store will not be a store for TV shows and movies anymore. Because starting this summer, you won’t be able to rent or purchase movie and TV shows.

PS Store will not be a movie platform anymore

”At SIE, we strive to provide the best entertainment experience for PlayStation fans, and that means evolving our offerings as customer needs change. We’ve seen tremendous growth from PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-based entertainment streaming services on our consoles. With this shift in customer behaviour, we have decided to no longer offer movie and TV purchases and rentals through PlayStation Store as of August 31, 2021.”

”When this change takes effect, users can still access movie and TV content they have purchased through PlayStation Store. For on-demand playback on their PS4, PS5 and mobile devices. We thank our fans for their continued support, and we look forward to further enhancing the entertainment experience on PlayStation.” Says the statement on the PlayStation Blog about PS Store.PS Store Discontinues Movie and TV Purchase and Rentals

There is still no exact reason why Sony is cancelling the movie and TV shows on their console. Maybe there is another project on the way we still don’t know. Anyways the rentals for the console was not necessary either. As rather to PS Store, people are using other platforms such as Netflix or Hulu. So this is not a big loss for most of the console users.

Maybe PS Store will expand the library with more games or there is another project coming up. We still don’t know any further details. All we know is that you have time until August to rent or purchase any movie and TV Shows over the store. So if you still use the platform, these times are your last times to watch some of your favourite movies and TV shows that are available on the console.
