Resident Evil 3 Remake Review: More Zombies

Resident Evil 3: Remake Review: Resident Evil series, which is known as one of the most prominent names in the Survival Horror genre, switched to different types with the fourth game and upset the old fans of the series. Capcom, bringing back the fear and tension with the seventh game, also delighted its former supporters, with the “Resident Evil 2 Remake” released last year. His thinking had spread. A year after the release of Resident Evil 2 Remake, this time we are with the Remake of the third game, Resident Evil 3: Remake. So let’s start to our Resident Evil 3: Remake review.

Resident Evil 3: Remake Review

Resident Evil 3: Nemesis was released just one year after the second game. It was a game that opened the rest of Raccoon City to the players. The original game released in 1999. Unlike the second game, most of which was at the police station, we were faced with a city that we could visit and an enemy that would make this city narrow. How successfully the Resident Evil: 3 Remake brings what the original game has to offer, let’s examine it together.

You’re getting used to Jill’s changing design soon after.

This time, we experience the story of S.T.A.R.S member Jill Valentine, whom we know from the first game. Valentine, who exposed after the events in the first game, when she is counting days to leave the city an epidemic occurs. We are not alone in our struggle to escape the city. Carlos Oliveira, a member of the Umbrella company’s tactical forces, fights with us to save civilians. And follow orders from above.

As if the townspeople that the virus captured were not enough, an enormous creature that only targets Jill is accompanying us in our adventure that starts in the city and goes to Umbrella laboratories. Nemesis is a killing machine whose sole purpose is to hunt down Jill Valentine. When you see Nemesis, an unstoppable enemy, the only option you have is to escape. I have to mention it from the beginning that I strongly support the rebuilding of the games. I don’t like the remastered games that release to the high-resolution videos and without touching. When comparing the differences between Resident Evil 3: Nemesis content and the Remake version, I will try to look as neutral as I can.

Raccoon City street

Raccoon City streets are among the first places you will stop by in the game. The story is an exciting start. From the primary point of view, the game that we start in Jill’s apartment is going to the third point of view in the scene where Nemesis introduces himself. While running around in the city and beginning to meet other characters, you gradually understand that this game will be different from Resident Evil 3: Nemesis. We are playing a reinterpreted sequel to the Resident Evil 2 Remake that came out last year. Not RE3: Nemesis’s Remake.

The game’s graphics look fantastic. You can see the details of the characters, the reactions of the enemies when you damage them. And the traces you left on them. You can see where the shells you shot. And the arms and legs can break as a result of the damage you caused to the enemies. While there are enemies in your pursuit, especially in high difficulty levels, the level of detail is pretty good, although there are details that you may not pay much attention to.

RE Engine successfully presents Raccoon City’s buildings under vibrant lights and dead inhabitants. You see the devastation taking place around, and you can appreciate how beautiful a few shops that are still intact look like. At least when you don’t have Nemesis behind.

In addition to the infected people, zombie dogs and insects you. There are new enemies you will meet with this game. The creatures named Hunter, produced in a laboratory environment, are both durable and strong enough to finish you in one blow. When the zombies that put up substantial struggles even by themselves come with the zombies that hug you, saying “Let me take a bite,” .You are very likely to return to the previous registration point. Although it is a system where you aim at different parts of the enemy and get different reactions according to the point you hit, I can not say that this is very effective in the game.

You have to do 3 or 4 hits with a gun on the head of a standard zombie. This can increase according to the difficulty level. The knife, which they say will not be broken this time, does nothing but break the box. I felt like they wanted us to avoid fighting more than during the game. The newly added prosecution mechanics seems to support my opinion.

Nemesis puts us in trouble again.

Most of the puzzles in the original game are not in the Remake version. You feel that the game leaves the mazes and slides into action. This is a city, and there are more zombies than the police station in the second game. It is inevitable to fight enemies from time to time. But since the action mechanics are not suitable for crowded wars, you also have problems here.

The evasion mechanics they add to the game is not very good to escape. While it is possible to avoid enemy attacks with perfect timing, your regular evasion movements become useless due to the “hitbox” area. Let me explain; you are fending off, the zombies are missing. Because of the hitbox in the space, he can teleport behind you and take a bite from your neck. Or during the prosecution, because you don’t have any immunity (I-frame), other zombies can catch you. And you can’t do anything against it.

There is a sense of urgency in the part of the city. You feel as if the game is trying to get you out of the city and take you to closed areas as quickly as possible.

When the zombies catch you, a key appears on the screen, and you feel that you will get rid of it by continually pressing it. There is no such thing. Whether it catches your neck or the tip of your shoe, it gets that bite. The only benefit of continually pressing the key is that you get less damage even if there is no visual change. Although we play with a character that can carry equipment larger than our height, we are incapable of kicking the zombies that climb up on our feet and kick up our neck in a lively manner.

Although Nemesis, which gave the original game its name, is quite scary as an image. I think it is not used well enough. Nemesis, who used to follow you all the time and jump in the most unexpected moments, has become a character used for cinematic scenes and boss fights from the second half of Remake. The battles against him, especially in the last episodes, make us think as “is the same as the previous one”. In the past, you had no idea when Nemesis would appear or how much to chase you. And that was one of the tensest point of the game. Resident Evil 2’s Mr The feeling tension of that Resident Evil 2 managed to give with Mr X, should be a feature that Nemesis should have. It would be great to experience the stress that suddenly appears before us while walking around the city.

Unlike Resident Evil 2, even if you start this game with one character, Jill Valentine isn’t the only controllable character of the game. You can control Carlos Olivera for a while. Drawing attention with its avoidance feature, Carlos allows us to see the parts of the story connected with Resident Evil 2. The change is good, albeit briefly.

The story of Resident Evil 3: Remake

There is a sense of urgency in the part of the city. You feel as if the game is trying to take you out of the town. And take you to the closed areas as quickly as possible, which causes Nemesis to eliminate its old weight and cause the game to end soon without using the potential it has. You feel like they’re in a hurry to get the game out. Removing the Mercenaries mode in the original game also restricts the activities you can do after the game is over. Once you have finished the game, you have no choice but to play in more complicated modes or with challenges such as “playing without saving”, “not using a pistol other than a gun”, and finishing the game. And if you want to play multiplayer, there is Resistance.

What is Resistance?

Resistance is the multiplayer game mode set in Capcom’s Resident Evil universe. The game is about a scientist (Mastermind) who tries to hunt four subjects. who is trying to get out of the closed space. Choosing between six characters, the subject team works to get rid of the research facility. They try to solve puzzles between the traps set up by the scientist and the enemies they place. In addition to setting up a trap, Mastermind tries to control zombies or Mr X so that no subjects can escape.

In fact, we are playing a reinterpreted sequel to the Resident Evil 2 Remake that came out last year, not RE3: Nemesis’s remake.

I had a chance to try the game both as a tester and as a Mastermind. As testers, we buy equipment at the beginning of the game and try to escape by teamwork. We have options such as killing the zombies that exist from nowhere before us and running away when Mr X is after us. Each character has its abilities. While one character is good at close combat, he can disable other Mastermind’s tracking cameras. When I played as a mastermind, it quickly became annoying because I had to do the same things all the time.

Resistance does not seem very bright among multiplayer survival games as a separate game. The characters are unstable, the game repeats itself a lot. And most importantly, there are long waiting times due to the low number of players. In addition to the cosmetics you can buy with in-game money, some updates can strengthen the characters. You can earn by playing points where you can shop in the in-game shop. Or you can purchase them through micropayments.

How are the received comments?

Resistance, which prepared as a game on its own, made a high noise when leaked to the internet last year. With the announcement of Resident Evil 3 Remake, it turned out that Resistance will release with the main game. It’s the right decision in terms of Resistance because I can’t imagine how good they were selling alone.

resident evil 3 remake review 7

As a result, Resident Evil 3: Remake has been a production that reviews the original game from the beginning. It is not wrong to say that the original game is not a remake, but the Resident Evil 2 Remake was prepared as a sequel. There is a lot of potentials spend in the game, both in terms of story and gameplay. This draws attention. But if I say the game is terrible, I would have done a great injustice. If you are the first to enter the series in the new generation, you will enjoy this game. If you are interested in the game, I recommend you take a look at its original version.

Resident Evil 3: Remake Review: Conclusion

Resident Evil 3: Remake and the Resistance that came with it are not games that deserve the $60 price. Those who expect more after Resident Evil 2 Remake will be disappointed. I think it’s worth giving a chance considering that there are not so many games of the Survival Horror genre. There is also a multiplayer game Resistance. Hope you enjoyed reading our Resident Evil 3: Remake Review.
