DC Comics can keep chasing bisons after this answer

Batman, one of the most known heroes of the comic-book world, is very popular with his bat-themed logo. But of course Batman is not the only one who uses this logo. Valencia, a Spanish football club, also has a bat emblem on its official logo. Therefore American based company DC Comics sued Valencia for stealing or imitating their emblem.

Valencia burns DC Comics with a reply

According to Tribune Magazine, Valencia's response to DC Comics was quite spiky and sarcastic. Club officials stated ‘’While we were using the bat-logo on our club emblem, Americans were still chasing bisons on fields’’.

As we look at the historical details, we see that Valencia used the bat logo in 1919, just before Batman's appearance in 1921. Valencia and the Balearic Islands were conquered by King James I of Aragon during the first half of the 13th century. 9 October 1238, when James I was about to enter the city, re-conquering it from the Moors, a bat landed on the top of his flag, and he interpreted it as a good sign. As he conquered the city, the bat was added to the arms and that’s how Valencia got the bat on its logo. You can see the previous Valencia logos and Batman logos below and make comparison:
