Why Red Dead Redemption 2 is best game I ever played?

Rockstar Games is somehow always able to separate itself from other developers. These guys are obsessive with details in their games. Even two decades ago, when Rockstar released the first Grand Theft Auto, they were trying to make us feel like we are just one of the NPC’s in the world they created. In any other games, we played since the first video game, the developers try to make us feel special, powerful or even, heroic. But the way Rockstar develops its stories, they are always focusing on the make the world as alive as possible. Because of this, whenever we play a game which they make, we feel somehow lost, or even, normal in their world. I think that is what makes their game so successful. In every Rockstar game, we are finding the world realistic, and we also can put ourselves to the place of the protagonist.

Why Red Dead Redemption 2 is best game I ever played?

In Red Dead Redemption 2, Rockstar really pushes the industry forward. We never have seen so much detail in any other video game before this. In every place you go, every NPC you saw, every character you met feels like they are real. And in very short time, you are able to attach to this characters. The reason behind this, of course, hides behind the realism them. You can see that every critic who talk about Red Dead Redemption 2, is saying the same thing, “This game is all about the characters.” When Rockstar revealed the Arthur Morgan, players were doubtful about him. Because he seems too, normal. And we were suspicious about that, “Can he really replace John Marston?” But it turns out, he did. He does not just replace John Marston, he replaced every other character for me. I was never thought that he will be the best character I ever played. But he did. How? Let’s dig in. (After this point, the article will be filled with major spoilers, if you didn’t finish the story, please don’t read!)

At the very beginning of the game, Red Dead Redemption 2 introduces us the Arthur Morgan in a very simple way. We just know his name, nothing else. But after the first hours, we get a clue that what kind of man is Arthur Morgan. And he seems, very normal, at least, normal for an outlaw. He doesn’t seem to have anything special with him. He is not a psychopath like Trevor in GTA V, or a man with a very sad background like Max Payne. He just seems, normal. So I wasn’t aware that I’m going to like him so much. But after some hours, when you some missions, choose some options with him, you feel like, you are the Arthur Morgan. It feels like, you are shaping his character as you like. I think that’s the most important part of the game. You become the reflect yourself, into the character you play. But it’s different than RPG games, because, in many RPG’s, you make your own character, you choose his/her appearance, skills, background and more. But in Red Dead Redemption 2, you already have them, you can just concentrate on his emotional character. It’s not like you are creating someone, you are changing someone. That’s important. As humans, we always want to change someone. Make him/her to someone we would like to see. Red Dead Redemption 2 let you do that.

When you continue in the story, especially when you learn about Arthur’s sickness, the emotional aspect of the game changes immediately. The game makes you feel like you are the one who sick. After this point of the story, you will start to change the way you play. For example, I was playing as a bad Arthur, who kill innocent, rob people and never look back. But after this point, I start to change. I was trying to redeem myself from my past sins. It feels like if it was happened in my real life, I would react and change just like that.

I can talk about much more reasons why RDR2 is best game I ever played, but we don’t have much time. All I can say, Rockstar changed the industry and raised the once again. I don’t know if i’m going to like any other game as much as this in future. I already start to wait next Red Dead game or a story DLC. I hope Rockstar made much money so we can keep see such masterpieces from them in future. If anyone read this from Rockstar Games, thank you!
